His current responsibilities and positions: Senior Adviser, European Center for Public Welfare Policy and Research (Vienna, Austria); Member of the Board of Directors of HelpAge International (London, UK); Expert of the International Institute on Aging (UN-Malta); Member of the Advisory Board of the Joint Programming Initiative of the European Union on Aging.
Previously, Oleksandr was the head of the Population Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (2010); headed the United Nations Program on Aging (1988-2009; Vienna - New York).
His main functions in the UN Agenda for Aging included coordinating the preparation and holding of the Second World Assembly on Aging (2002, Madrid, Spain), including the development of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Aging and the coordination of global activities to implement the Madrid Plan of Action.
